SRCD Courses for Authors, Reviewers, and Editors
Rigorous developmental science requires research that is contextualized, representative, and relevant to individuals with varied social identities in diverse global contexts. Advancing this science requires a cultural shift in academic publishing and peer review. To support this shift, the Society for Research on Child Development offers free courses for authors, reviewers, and editors that examine how bias influences what research is funded, published, and amplified. The courses provide practical strategies for researchers to examine and mitigate their own biases, adopt equitable evaluation practices, and strengthen the rigor of scientific publishing. I helped develop these courses in collaboration with Drs. Mariam Aly, Shahana Ansari, Shakiera Causey, Eliana Colunga, Amanda Diekman, Flóra Faragó, Matthew Goldrick, Angelina Majeno, Kendall Morris, Kimberly Osborne, Vaishali Raval, Fernando Salinas-Quiroz, Seung-Hee Claire Son, and Chenyi Zhang.
Psychology Undergraduate Research Community
As a graduate student at the University of Toronto, I co-founded The Psychology Undergraduate Research Community (PURC) for undergrads to learn more about psychological research and develop professional skills outside of the laboratory or classroom. PURC holds variety of meetings each year, including regular meetings for students to present research, connect with graduate students and faculty, complete tutorials (e.g., statistics, Python), and get information about graduate programs and industry positions, as well as writing workshops to help students apply to the Research Opportunity Program and graduate programs. In addition to these small meetings and workshops, PURC hosts an annual Symposium, with approximately 100 student presenters across different levels of research experience and across diverse research interests.
